In practice, impulse responses in rooms are calculated with algorithms that are based on models with limited physical validity, the ray tracing model, the mirror image source model or a mixture of both. This paper presents an alternative approach adopted from the seismic field, based on wave field extrapolation. Specular as well as non-specular reflections are simulated and detailed absorption properties of the boundaries can be taken into account.
