Correction of Nonlinearity Errors Contained in Digital Audio Signals

A method to reduce nonlinear distortion of previously recorded digital signals captured with a successive approximation analog-to-digital converter (ADC) is described.lIn this method the code correction is realized by 1) differential nonlinearity of the ADC is estimated from the statistical analysis of code distribution (histogram) of the recorded signal, 2) a code conversion table for correction of the nonlinearity is made from these data, 3) the original signal is processed by using this table, 4) reduction of the nonlinear distortion is achieved. Considerations on the justifiability of the estimated data and the resultant signals are also mentioned.
