We have developed a wide frequency range, low noise and 3-way condenser microphone system for the next generation digital audio recording format. The system consists of three microphone units, plus the power supply. The lower two units are push-pull, coaxial 2-way types. The complete microphone system realizes a frequency range of 20 to 100,000 Hz and a dynamic range of 120 dB at less than 20 kHz. This paper discusses the construction of this microphone system and the characteristics of each microphone unit.
