Some Studies on the Reduction of Head Wear Caused by Magnetic Tapes and a Test Device for Measuring the Relative Wear on a Simulated Head

This paper describes the results of some studies to determine the effects of various surface treatments to decrease head wear caused by contact with magnetic tape. A test device for simulating head wear and a means of measuring the relative head wear is described. The possible effects on output at low and high frequencies and the noise level were investigated.
