An acoustic transducer array driven by a binary digital signal is one of the practicable approaches to a truly digital loudspeaker. Since the sound waves propagated from different transducers carry different bit streams and travel different path lengths to the listening position, a nonuniform sound field will be generated in space. Further analysis also showed that there is significant harmonic distortion in the digital array sound field, which is dependent on the bit drive sequence. Computer simulation results are provided to assess the distortion and to evaluate the radiation properties of a digital transducer array loudspeaker.
