The major contributors to nonlinear distortion in dynamic direct radiator loudspeakers are the driving and suspension elements. These elements are constant for small and moderate amplitudes but depart from constancy for large excursions of the cone and voice coil. A theoretical analysis shows that the major spurious components due to the nonlinear distortion are third harmonics of the fundamental. Means for reducing and canceling the nonlinear distortion due to the driving (word) suspension systems are described.
