Practical Implementation of a Data-Based Wave Field Reproduction System

A practical implementation of a 3-D audio reproduction system based on wave field synthesis (WFS) is described. Appropriate techniques and formats for the recording and transmission of audio and control data are proposed. The basic idea is to transmit measured room impulse response sets, together with a distinct number of dry sources, and re-synthesize the acoustical scene at the receiver. Required channel capacity and hardware costs are discussed in detail. Compared with standard discrete loudspeaker surround formats, a real holographic acoustic display is achieved, independent of the listener`s position.:
