Inter- and intraframe prediction tools used in the MPEG AAC coder have been taken out of the unit and are now independent modules. Noise injection has been simulated by a truncating function that provides a signal-dependent noise power. The behavior of both tools, either alone or combined, has been tested using a database containing synthetic and natural audio items.
