Tape copies can be made either by the method of direct recording or magnetic printing. So far only direct recording has been successfully applied, ranging from the 1 : 1 nominal-to the 1 : 16 multiple speed mode. Multiple speed tape duplicating is very effective when manufacturing tape records of low nominal tape speed, i.e. 1 7/8 in/s. Design considerations of tape duplicators are reviewed and the efficiency of their practical application discussed.
