The digital recording method known as Direct Stream Digital is based on the direct recording of the 1-bit output signal of a delta`sigma modulated analog-to-digital converter. This provides an analog-like sound quality and superior flexibility when compared to current digital audio (PCM) systems. On the other hand, compact disc sales are still growing worldwide. This has led to the demand for higher quality sound of the traditional compact disc. In this paper a new compact disc mastering process using the Direct Stream Digital recording method is described.
