A stationary head compact cassette digital tape recorder has been developed in combination of a metal evaporated tape and a ferrite head. The quantization is 16 bits linear, the sampling rate is 44.1 kHz, and the recording time is one hour realizing the equivalent performance to that of the compact disk. Though the base film thickness of 9 µm is equal to that of the general C-90 tape, the magnetic layer thickness is as thin as 0.1 µm enabling one-hour recording at 9.5 cm/sec speed. The high coresivity of 1000 Oersted coupled with the high remanent flux density of 1000 Gauss realizes this performance in the recording density area of comparatively large allowance yet with small number of tracks as 10 data tracks plus two users tracks.
