The absence of road noise, engine noise etc. is a key issue in limousine cars. Active road noise reduction is one possible way to reduce noise in the cabin without substantial weight increase in the car. In this paper, an Audi A8 W12 with adaptive air suspension is studied with respect to the feasibility of implementing an accelerometer based feed-forward active road noise reduction system. An analysis of the coherence between signals from uni-axial accelerometers mounted vertically in proximity to the wheels and signals from a cabin mounted microphone shows that the correlation between these signals is lower than in standard cars. Elaborate multiple accelerometer systems are needed before cabin noise can be reduced with active road noise reduction.
