This paper describes a synchronizer which makes it possible, as well as economically feasible, to synchronize a number of video tape, multitrack audio tape, and magnetic film transports. Machines can be locked in synchronization, individually offset with respect to the other machines, and started and stopped at preset positions. No modification to the tape transport or electronics is required because a new SMPTE-compatible time code permits fast slewing even with the tapes lifted off the heads.
