Two-channel transmission systems have become optimized via matrices to yield fairly convincing azimuthal presentation of sound. Those same goals are also sought by four-channel systems, and this naturally raises the question of their optimization, again via matrices, to even more complex playback arrays. This paper examines some of the many interesting possibilities to be explored here.
