Using Personal HRTF and Binauralized Headphone Monitoring in Immersive Soundtrack Post Production

The present work uses personal HRTF data with binaural rendering to headphones of an immersive audio reproduction system for creating the complete sound design during the entire creative workflow. In this work, a full immersive sound design in 7.1.2 loudspeaker monitoring format is created for the cinema soundtrack of a short film ‘Saarna’. The paper discusses the benefits and problems encountered when binaural headphone monitoring is used for creating the complete soundtrack instead of the typical loudspeaker based monitoring.
