Performed Music: Analysis, Synthesis, and Display by Computer

Computer processing of performed monophonic music can now be done at sophisticated levels leading to succinct visual displays and sound output capabilities. Automatically identifying the partials, pitch contour, and musical notes played on a traditional musical instrument allows for color and 3-D graphics, music notation, and animated film displays of the music. Graphics and taped examples including resynthesis by feature extraction will be presented.
