The aspects of intelligibility and naturalness in churches with long reverberation time, large volume, considerable distance between talker and listeners, as well as blind areas produced by architectural pillars are discussed. The solution, which has been adopted in a considerable number of early Danish churches, uses a distributed loudspeaker system with special applications of delay equipment related to the various distances from the altar or pulpit to the listeners. Aesthetic and architectural considerations are also covered.
