A new dynamic microphone, designed to increase the usable microphone-to-source distance, is described. Designed particularly for television and motion picture applications where the usable microphone working distance must be a maximum, the model 642 has improved directivity and high sensitivity. The improved directivity is achieved by functioning as a first order gradient microphone at bass frequencies and as a line microphone at high frequencies. A detailed description of the directional characteristics is included.
