The paper describes the cause of power compression, the coloration effects of power compression on low frequency musical passages, and a method of virtually eliminating the power compression for input levels up to twice the rated rms power capacity. When applied to the latest generation of horn loaded servo drive loudspeakers, this technique allows reproduction of musical peaks exceeding 139 dB at 1 meter below 100 Hz.
