In the course of conversion of many electronic devices from tube to semi-conductor operation, the condenser microphone seems for the longest time to have remained in the domain of tube technology. The generally used audio frequency circuitry of the condenser microphone requires an amplifier with extremely high input impedance, while at the same time demanding wide dynamic range and minimal self-noise level, something which is impossible to achieve using ordinary transistors.
